In a quiet suburb of Adelaide Steve and Trenna Moore have created the perfect environment to raise their young family.
And when they had twins their beautiful house became the centre of their busy family life.
But this winter their cosy world collapsed when four year old Jesse was rushed to hospital, gasping for life. Jesse had an asthma attack so severe he stopped breathing.
No-one is sure what causes asthma, but the airways constrict, so every asthma attack is potentially fatal.
Exhausted from the sleepless nights, Steve and Trenna decide to take action, beginning with their house.
Now they are determined to find out what triggers Jesse's asthma attacks – they will do anything to stop it from happening again.
In winter family life is spent in the large family/ kitchen extension and on cold nights their tiny un-flued gas heater quickly warms the whole room. They all snuggle up on the couch to watch TV.
Trenna thinks the cold can trigger Jesse's asthma so she is careful to keep the room warm. The heater smells, but she and Steve can't see the point of keeping the back door open to get fresh air, as they want to keep the room warm! Instead every few hours they turn the heater off until the cold creeps back in.
The family room is cosy but the rest of the house stays very cold, and this leads to condensation and other problems such as mould and dust mites. Add to this mix an open fire place in the toy room and some basic home maintenance problems and the Moore's have lots to change.
